Te takoha ā-rārangi-utu Payroll giving as an employee

Back

If your employer or payer offers payroll giving you can donate to charities and similar organisations directly from your pay.

How payroll giving works

You choose the organisation you want to donate to, how much you want to donate and how often.

You can choose more than one organisation.

The organisation you choose needs to be on our list of approved organisations.

Your employer or payer (if you get schedular payments) deducts the money on your behalf and passes it onto the organisation.

For every dollar you donate you get 33.33 cents back as a tax credit. The credit reduces the amount of PAYE or withholding tax you pay.

You don't need to do anything at the end of the tax year as you've already received the tax credits.

You can also get tax credits for donations you make outside your pay. You will need to claim your tax credits at the end of the tax year. You get 33.33 cents back for every dollar you donate to an approved organisation.
