Filing employment information electronically

Back

Employers with total annual PAYE and ESCT (employer superannuation contribution tax) of $50,000 or more must file electronically.

You can:

  • file in myIR with onscreen entry or with file upload, or
  • file using payroll software – you need a myIR account to set this up.

You need to file within 2 working days of the payday.

If your PAYE and ESCT is less than $50,000 you can choose to file electronically or by paper.

Adding new employees

On or before the new employee’s first payday you need to tell us:

  • employee’s address information
  • employee’s date of birth, if they have provided it to you.

You can do this in your payroll account in myIR.

Telling us about departing employees

On or before the employee’s last day you need to tell us the date the employee left.

You can do this in your payroll account in myIR by going to the Employees tab, selecting the employee and entering a cease date.

Giving access to your payroll account in myIR

If someone else, such as an employee, manages your payroll you can give them access to your payroll account in myIR. They will be able to file your employment information for you.
